Antique English Tea Caddy
Rosewood English antique tea caddy with interior center divider. This box has a wonderful curved top and highly stylized feet. A tea caddy is a box, jar, canister, or other receptacle used to store tea. The word “caddy” is believed to be derived from catty, the historic measurement of the Chinese pound. Until about 1800 they were called tea canisters rather than caddies. Georgian box-shaped caddies were often made in mahogany, rosewood, and satin-wood.
